Named after Aegir, the Scandinavian god of the sea, where this mineral was first described. each specimen consists of dark crystals in a white matrix(probbly albite or plagioclase felspar) The aegirine tends to form groups or sheafs. This Cinnabar comes from the famous Almaden District of Southern Spain, where it was mined as far back as Roman times. Copper (Sculptured)

Michigan's native copper is used to form these interesting sculptures. Molten copper at 2200 degree's farrenheight is poured in to a straw which is immersed in water resulting in the straw burning away and the new copper form solidifying within the cool water.

Old customs of the early miners indicated that lead was used in the above process and fortune telling was a pastime on new years day. Good or bad luck was determined by the shape and size of the new sculpture formed. The specimens were manufactured in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula.
